Arwa
Oweis, is an associate professor and Dean of Nursing, at
Philadelphia University. She received her DNSc from Widener
University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2001, and received her
MSN from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1991. She
obtained her first nursing degree in 1987 from Yarmouk University
in Jordan. For her excellence in academic achievements, she
had the opportunity to obtain her graduate education from
reputable International Universities. Arwa worked as a teaching
assistant at the Faculty of Nursing at Jordan University of
Science and Technology (JUST) between 1987 and 1989, and then she
worked as an instructor for about ten years also at JUST faculty
of nursing 1991-2000. Between the year 2001 and 2005, and after
obtaining her doctorate degree, (through a full time summer
course), she worked as an assistant professor and chaired two
nursing departments at JUST faculty of nursing. Through this
period she built her capacity and was involved with teaching at
the master program and advised several master students. Between
2005 and 2006, she was appointed as vice dean and was involved
with the WHO collaborating center as deputy director. On the year
2006 she was promoted to an associate professor and was recruited
to become the dean of nursing at Philadelphia University. Arwa is
a highly active and devoted academic and professional nurse. She
believes in nursing as science and art. Arwa is an active person
who believes in the development of the profession of nursing at
all levels. She is actively participating with the Jordanian
Nursing Organizations to develop and regulate the profession. She
actively participates in the academic and the professional nursing
initiatives at the local, regional and the international levels.
She have done several consultations with the WHO collaborating
center and the USAID, the National Council of Family Affairs in
the areas of women's and family health, reproductive health,
midwifery and women's health as well as nursing curriculum. Arwa
participated in many national, regional, and international
initiatives and conferences. She also participated in the
development and the implementation of several international
nursing and midwifery and women's health projects including
evidence based practice protocols as well as the development of
the graduate and the undergraduate nursing and midwifery
curricula. Arwa is an active researcher who is involved in several
research project funded by national and international agencies.
Arwa
is married to a supporting husband, have three wonderful children,
2 girls and one boy, 14, 13, and 3 years old. She is enjoying a
great life with the support of her family as well as the support
of her peers, and friends. She also believes that hard work and
believing in ones capabilities and abilities are the keys of
success.
