Your
Royal Highness Princess Muna Al Hussein
Your Excellencies Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen
It gives me great pleasure to welcome
you all on behalf of all the members
of the conference committees and to thank your Royal Highness for your
continual support and encouragement.
This conference is organized by the
Jordanian Nursing Council in collaboration with Jordan University, the
Royal Medical Services and King Hussein Cancer Centre.
This is the 2nd international
conference held by the JNC and it builds on achievements of the first
conference. It is the intention of the JNC to bring together practicing
nurses and scholars from around the world in order to discuss vital
issues related to nursing.
We believe that this gathering will
open new horizons through facilitating an exchange of ideas among the
different health care sectors in our country among practitioners,
educationalists and policy makers.
It is hoped that this conference will
not only facilitate the transfer of knowledge but more importantly
stimulate nurses to become change agents and to develop ownership of
JNC’s continuous quest for optimal nursing.
The specific objectives of the
conference are to:
· Share new experiences in practice,
education and research
· Promote scholarly exchange and
networking to meet new challenges
· Identify partnership models to
advance nursing research agenda for quality care.
· Identify future directions for
quality nursing.
· Highlight the benefits of
interdisciplinary collaboration

The title of Robert Frost famous poet
and Doctor Scott Peck’s work inspired
the title for this conference ‘The Road Less Traveled'.
Peck talks about personal discipline
and puts forward several interrelated and harmonious elements of
discipline. These include dedication to truth,
balancing and acceptance of responsibility.
Although Peck intended his writing for personal growth, his theme is of
great relevance to current nursing
issues
The first theme of the conference is titled "New Paradigms: New
perspectives of essential core aspects
of nursing" and is meant to focus on dedication to innovation and
openness to new realities which can only
transcend from nurses' dedication to truth.
The
second theme is titled "Balancing Priorities" and is directly related to
the nurses' ability in dealing with
the unexpected and balancing conflicting demands with the aim of
meeting the demands of today's health care.
The final theme is titled
"Accountability" and is directly related to the element of accepting
responsibility for decisions and actions while being responsive to
change.
The JNC in collaboration with
national institutions hopes to act as the medium for change and as an
enabling agent to uplift the nursing profession to the status it
deserves.
This necessitates nurses to be
dedicated to innovation, balance priorities and to demonstrate
accountability in order for them to become spearheads for the
development of the profession and the achievement of quality patient
care.
We, nurses deliberately choose "the
less traveled road". Although this path is more intricate, the
outcome when we reap the fruits of our hard labour is likely to be more
rewarding. This is the challenge we as a profession face and I believe
now more than ever that we are ready to rise up to it.
The organization of a conference
event of this sort involves a myriad of complex details.
I would like to particularly
acknowledge and thank the members of the conference organizing committee
and conference administrators for their energy and commitment to the
event over an extended period of time. The quality of the final
programme, and of all the ancillary arrangements, is a tribute to their
efforts.
We are pleased that so many of you
are here for this conference. I encourage you to share in its
deliberations and hope these two days will provide you with many new
ideas to re-invigorate you in facilitating quality patient care through
disciplined nursing.
Enjoy
the day. |
