In The Work of Writing, Elizabeth Rankin speaks of the importance of
“Contributing to the professional conversation.” Publishing in nursing
disseminates important information which can advance the quality of
nursing care and increase patient satisfaction, refocuses nursing
practice to critical appraisal of published evidence, stimulates
delivery of more effective nursing care, and reduces the gap between
nursing research, nursing education, and clinical practice.
The purpose of this presentation is to provide suggestions on how to
become successful in writing for publication in nursing. Content will
include the following:
1. Identification of the reasons for writing for publication
2. Tips on how to get started in writing manuscripts
3. Tips on preparation of manuscripts
4. Tips on submitting your manuscript
5. Addressing reviewer suggestions
6. Resources which may be helpful in contributing to success in
publishing
This will be a hands on, working session. Workshop participants are
asked to bring a hard copy of a manuscript they are currently working on
for peer review during the workshop. Workshop participants will also be
asked to set goals and a timeline for submission of a manuscript for
publication.
